  Amazing place. Unknown by most, even York residents. We had the most fantastic wedding anniversary party here. Beautiful gardens, food was excellent, exactly what we asked for. Staff were welcoming, friendly, so helpful. Strongly recommend.

  Lovely staff and beautiful hotel. Only improvements I can suggest from the room I stayed in, which was the Willoughby room is when cleaning the rooms staff need to get into the smaller spaces. For example there was a decent pile of dust in each of the indentations made by the buttons on the sofa. Also the screw holding the handle to the wardrobe had no nut so I could just remove the screw and take the handle off. Everything else about the hotel was perfect. The addition of the building's history in the room booklet was a great read.

  This is a small boutique hotel with a sense of real history. It does show it's age in places but it's a small price to play for such an exquisite little hotel.

  A wonderful location, tucked away in a quiet corner of the city centre, and beautiful decor, very sympathetic to the history of the building, and certainly worth a visit for that alone. However, the lunch menu is rather limited and lacks the finesse one would expect for the prices they are charging. Service is cheerful and friendly, but again, lacks polish. I'd happily return for a relaxed coffee in the Long Gallery, but perhaps wouldn't splash out for lunch
